The short version
Most buffering comes from the home network, not the service: Wi-Fi far from the router, other streaming in the house, or a box that is short on memory. A wired connection, a restart before the game and the HD feed instead of 4K fix most cases. Raise the player's buffer only if those fail.
- HD needs about 10 Mbps; 4K about 25 Mbps per stream
- Evening peaks are when problems show up
What fixes buffering most often?
| Fix | Helps when | Effort |
|---|---|---|
| Ethernet cable to the box | Wi-Fi is weak or busy | Low |
| 5 GHz Wi-Fi, router in the same room | No cable possible | Low |
| Restart box and router before the game | Box has been on for days | Low |
| Switch 4K to HD | Line under 25 Mbps | Low |
| Larger player buffer | Short drops on a good line | Medium |
| Close other streams in the house | Many people online | Low |
Does the buffer setting in IPTV Smarters help?
A larger buffer smooths short drops but adds a delay when you change channels. Setting it lower rarely helps. Change it only after the network fixes above.
Questions people ask
Why does it buffer only at night?
Evening peaks load every part of the network, from your Wi-Fi to your ISP. A wired connection makes the most difference.
Will a faster plan from my ISP fix it?
Only if you are below about 10 Mbps for HD. Above that, Wi-Fi quality matters more.
Can you tell me which channel feed is best?
Yes. Ask in the chat during a game and we suggest the steadiest feed.
