The short version

An IPTV box is any device that runs a player app on your TV. In Canada the easy choices are a Fire TV Stick, a Formuler, or any Google TV or Android TV box. You do not need a preloaded box: buy a normal device from a store, then install the app and log in.

  • Never buy a 'fully loaded' box from a classified ad
  • Android TV and Google TV boxes give the most app choice

Why not buy a preloaded box?

Boxes sold "fully loaded" on classified sites bundle a service you cannot check, and buyers report sellers who disappear. A store-bought device plus a trial is safer and usually cheaper.

Questions people ask

Do I need a box if I have a smart TV?

Often not. Samsung and LG TVs run apps such as IBO Player. A box adds more app choice and a better TV guide.

What about the remote?

Every box has its own remote. Our remote guide explains how to set up channel up and down and the guide button.

Is 4K worth it on a box?

Only if your TV is 4K and your connection holds about 25 Mbps.
