The short version
Canadian ISPs block certain IP addresses while live NHL, NBA and Premier League games are on, under Federal Court orders. The first dynamic order came in 2022 for the NHL; order T-743-24 from July 2024 covers more sports and has been amended several times, most recently in June 2026.
- Blocking happens during game windows, then IPs are unblocked
- Applied by Bell, Rogers, Fido, TekSavvy, Cogeco and others
- 2026-27 scope: to be confirmed in the latest amendment
How does a dynamic order work?
A monitoring agent identifies servers streaming a live game without permission. During the game window the listed ISPs block those IP addresses, and after the window ends they lift the block. The list changes from game to game, which is why it is called dynamic.

What should a viewer expect on game night?
A stream that works in the afternoon may stop at puck drop. That is the order working as designed, not a fault in your device. It is one reason the 24-hour trial includes an evening.
Questions people ask
Which ISPs apply the orders?
The orders name the major Canadian ISPs. Rogers, Fido, Bell, Lucky Mobile, Cogeco and TekSavvy publish notices about them.
Does the order cover the 2026-27 season?
The June 18, 2026 amendment likely extends it, but we have not read its text. We will update this page once we do.
Was the blocking audited?
The 2022 NHL order required an independent check of over-blocking and VPN use.
