The short version
Some IPTV apps can record a live channel to a USB drive or the device's storage, notably TiviMate Premium on Android TV. Catch-up, replaying shows that already aired, depends on the provider; Canada 4K IPTV does not promise catch-up. Subtitles appear when the channel or film includes them.

Subtitles
Open the player's audio and subtitle menu. Live channels rarely carry subtitles; films in the library often do.
What to check during the trial
Catch-up depends on both the channel and the app. During the free trial, open a channel you watch often, go back in the guide to a programme from yesterday and see if it plays. Not every channel has it, so test the ones that matter to you. If you want to record, check that your device has enough free storage first: an hour in HD can take a few gigabytes. On boxes with little storage, an external USB drive is often the simplest fix, as long as the app supports recording to it.
